“Child of God” Shelter Project
The Moon and the Sun.
- Night, tonight again. Mother, I’m scared. What’s in the sky, Mother?
- It’s the moon, my dear son.
- The moon is so beautiful, but the night is dark. I’m scared. I can’t see anything. Mother, don’t go, I’m scared to sleep alone.
- Son, I love you, don’t be afraid, I will always be there. I will protect your dream from all evil beings. Sleep well. Tomorrow will be a new day, there will be sunshine, you will see the light. Your fears will go away and I will be there. You will live this day in joy and happiness. I promise you.
I love you, my son.
My name is Madeleine, and I’m going to tell you my life story. The story of a woman who dedicated her life to her children.
You might say, “Many people do that.” Yes and no. My choice was conscious. I knew what I had to do to save my son. Forget your desires, live, and do only what is necessary for his survival. I made a choice in favor of God and to live according to His commandments, as far as is possible for an ordinary person. “He is the only one who was, is, and always will be by my side, no matter what,” I told myself. I am the mother of a son with Asperger’s.
What is Asperger’s syndrome, also known as autism spectrum disorder? The main symptoms of this disorder are difficulties interacting socially with others.
His perspective on life is different from that of an ordinary person. This is why he experiences suffering. His entire life is dedicated to finding himself and his place in the world. He would like to live like everyone else, but he cannot. His brain processes information differently.
Many famous people have had Asperger’s syndrome, such as Abraham Lincoln, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Bill Gates, Robie Williams, and many others. So the question arises: is it an illness, or are these people geniuses?
If we’re talking about geniuses who look like ordinary people, then I don’t think that’s the case. Science still doesn’t know who people with Asperger’s are. We can only hope that, with time, people will understand that it’s not an illness, but a different perspective on life. As a result, few people want to help these individuals; most want to get rid of them in order to live in peace. I don’t blame people. Everyone wants to live and enjoy life, not sacrifice themselves, forget themselves, and devote themselves entirely to raising a disabled child.
I am a mother, and I love my child just the way he is. I can safely say that I am a happy mother. I have two beautiful sons; they are my joy and happiness, but also my deepest sorrow. There are many mothers like me, heroic mothers who are ready to give their lives for their children, if only they were happy.
I have overcome many obstacles with my child: persecution, humiliation, loneliness, illness. But together, we survived.
Today, I want to help those mothers who have given up, who no longer have the courage to fight for their children and their lives, because they have lost their strength, their will, their hope. They have no support, they are unemployed, they don’t have enough to live on. When a single mother raises a child, she has no choice but to send them to boarding school or give them maternal love, but to live in hardship, because the child has no one but their mother.
The mother is the child’s only support. My story is not just the story of a mother with a child. It is the story of all single mothers with disabled children in their arms. The story of mothers who one day, like me, decided not to give up, no matter what.
My dream is to create a “Child of God” assisted living facility for single mothers raising children with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs), including autism spectrum disorders (ASD), such as Asperger’s syndrome, without intellectual disability and with preserved language abilities, as well as children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). It would be a place where mothers could leave their children while they organize their lives: find work, study, and take care of their health. The well-being of a mother and her position in society directly impact the life of her child. If a mother is happy, healthy, and confident, she will be able to continue raising her child, regardless of the challenges. She will have the strength and the ability to do so.
Many mothers are forced to send their children to boarding schools simply because they weren’t cared for in time, because, unfortunately, there was no one available.
The fact is, the mother is alone, and aside from the child, who also needs support and care, she has no one.
In these centers, children will be able to interact with others, will have the opportunity to experience joy and the care of those around them, not just their mothers.
Children will know that, in addition to their mother and their room, there are other people who love and accept them for who they are. My dream is to bring joy to children by filling their days with care and love. They will be able to see the world from the other side, the one they have never seen. They will live the life of an ordinary child. Playing games, making music, playing sports, and so many other things that were always forbidden, things they were even afraid to dream about.
The children will forget the loneliness that destroyed them day after day for so many years. The children will realize that life isn’t just pain, but also joy.
Ordinary people think that a disabled child doesn’t need what they need, but in reality, they are wrong.
Disabled children are no different from other people who want to live and enjoy life, not live apart. If there are mothers who have experienced what I have, and people who have been touched by my life story, people who want to help this world draw closer to God, please don’t miss out!
The fate of mothers and children depends on you. Each of us was born of a mother, and each of us was once a child. Let’s make this world a better place together!
Your support, whatever form it takes, helps keep “The Power of Prayer” alive and supports the development of the “Child of God” shelter. Every gesture counts and contributes to offering a brighter future for children.
